Current Critical Industry Trends

A tanker attack off Qatar marks a widening of the Gulf shipping conflict beyond the Strait of Hormuz, increasing security risks for vessels and regional energy trade.
 

Ocean

Maersk completed the first commercial ship-to-ship ethanol bunkering of a deep-sea containership in the U.S., gaining practical experience with ethanol as a potential marine fuel.

HD Hyundai has delivered the world’s first containership designed to eliminate manual lashing, with new cell guides reducing labor-intensive work and improving cargo handling efficiency.
 

Ports

DP World’s Centerm terminal at the Port of Vancouver has increased container capacity by 65% while expanding its footprint by just 15%, highlighting the impact of infrastructure and technology investment on terminal capacity.

Port of Melbourne has upgraded Appleton Dock to handle dry bulk commodities, opening a new rail-to-ship export route for critical minerals.
